What is IELTS?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) was created to assist you in moving to a country where English is the dominant language in order to work, study or migrate — including the USA, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. The test evaluates your proficiency in listening, reading, writing and speaking, scored on a scale from 1 to 9. The British Council, IDP IELTS, and Cambridge University Press & Assessment share ownership of IELTS.
What is the PTE test?
PTE is an English proficiency test widely accepted for student admissions and immigration visas worldwide. It employs Artificial Intelligence (AI) scoring, offering an objective method and quicker turnaround of results.
The main distinction: PTE is administered only by computer, while IELTS requires your physical presence for a paper-based exam (with rare online exceptions in India). Evaluation differs too — IELTS is marked manually, while PTE-A uses AI for an objective, error-free method. Other differences include acceptance, cost and the number of test sittings per year. The PTE test is completed in a single sitting of 3 hours (with a short optional 10-minute break).
